
The
seminar started at 1530 hrs with the recitation of
Sora-e- Fatah by Mr. Abdul Aziz Khan. About 47
participants attended this seminar.
At
1545 hrs, Mr. Gulzar Firoz President, PTA (SZ)
Environmental Society, delivered his welcome address,
he thanked to all the participants for
participating in the seminar and for being cooperative
with the CTP-KT team to deliver their outputs
effectively.
He
also shared about the website of CTP-KT with the
participants and requested them to make comments on
the same. Beside this he discussed about the other
outputs of CTP-KT and requested to all the
participants to give their comments for the further
improvement in the deliverables.
Mr. Firoz appreciated the
participants to show their interest in the four days
workshop which was organized in the NILT. He end his
welcome address at 1600 hrs.
After
the welcome speech Project Coordinator Mr. Izhar Ul
Haque, Project Coordinator, CTP-KT shared the progress
of project activities with the participants which
executed during the fist year (2003) of project life.
After
the presentation on progress Project Coordinator, Mr.
Izhar Ul Haque requested to the participants for
sharing their views with the participants regarding
the project activities which executed under CTP-KT.
As
response of his request, Mr. Waqas Shakeel Director,
“Universal Leather & Footwear” expressed his views
regarding CTP-KT activities. He said that CTP-KT is a
project which is one of the initiatives of PTA (SZ)
Environmental Society, taken to facilitate the
tanneries of Korangi industrial area. He appreciated
the CTP-KT team efforts and said, by implementing
Cleaner Technologies, tanning process can be make
environmental friendly and cost effective. He also
highlighted the importance of four days workshop which
held in NILT during December 09 to 12, 2003 to
demonstrate the implementation mechanism of Cleaner
Technologies for Lather processing. Mr. Shakeel
requested to organize these kinds of workshop in
future.
After
that Mr. S.M.Naseeem Managing Director, MIMA Limited
shared his views He said that this is a very good
initiative for Korangi tanneries and all the tannery
owners should avail this opportunity to achieve the
benefits through the implementation of Cleaner
Technologies. These benefits are not in terms of
cleaner processing only, there are lots of financial
benefits also Mr. Naseem shared with the participants
that he has implemented following Cleaner Technologies
and achieving number of financial and environmental
benefits.

Mr.
Masud Ahmed Sheikh, Managing Director, Khas (Pvt.)
Ltd. also shared his experience with the participants,
after Mr. S.M. Nasem, regarding the achievements by
the implementation of Cleaner Technologies.He said he
has already installed wastewater treatment plant in
his tannery 20 years back. Beside this desalting drum
and brushing machine is available for salt de dusting
and it provides lots of financial benefits. He also
requested his colleagues to adopt Cleaner
Technologies.
The
participants of the seminar raised many questions
regarding the implemented of Cleaner Technologies with
the personnel of tanning industries who shared their
views regarding the same. Very interesting and
informative discussions were made on Cleaner
Technologies, during the question answer session,
while having the views from the executives of leather
sector.
After
having the discussion on project progress and views
given by the executives of leather industries a
presentation was given on a software program titled
(Computer Aided Technology” by Mr. Shabbar Abbas Rizvi,
Deputy Project Coordinator, CTP-KT, to demonstrate the
application of the same. the soft is comprised on two
components i.e. “Cleaner Technologies and Waste
Management” and the other is “Leather Technology Self
Assessment”. The soft program is acquired from BLC to
facilitate the tanners for the implementation of
Cleaner Technologies. The first component “Cleaner
Technologies and Waste Management” provides the
guidelines and details of available Cleaner
Technologies, implementation mechanism of the same and
techniques to manage the solid waste which generate in
the tanneries. The other component “Leather Technology
Self Assessment” provides the guidelines to assess the
personnel for the self analyses regarding the learning
of Cleaner Technologies and waste management learnt
through the software.
Participants of the seminar raised questions to clear
their ambiguities regarding the software and gave
their feed back through making discussions on the
same. The participants said that this soft can be
prove beneficial for them if it would utilize
appropriately.
The
participants were informed regarding the availability
of software with CTP-KT and asked to register their
name to get the same from CTP-KT designated personnel.
The participants registered their name to acquire this
software.
CTP-KT
website was launched after the discussion and
registration for software. Detail explanation was
given regarding all the components of website to the
participants by Mr. Shabbar Abbas Rizvi, Deputy
Project Coordinator.The participants of the seminar
appreciated the efforts of CTP-KT team to launch the
informative website for the leather sector.
The
seminar was ended at 1730 hrs with the vote thanks by
Mr. Ahsan Ilahi, President PTA (SZ).Mr. Ahsan Ilahi
thanked all the participants for attending the
seminar. He also appreciated all the participants to
demonstrate their seriousness and commitments for the
environmental betterment.
