Cleaner Technologies in Leather Processing |
|
A workshop titled “Testing Procedures for
Environmental Pollution Parameters in Tannery Effluent”
was held on September 14, 2004 at National Institute of
Leather Technology” (NILT). This workshop was aimed to
train the laboratory and production staff of tanneries
through practical demonstration and exercises.
Objective
The main objective to organize this workshop was to give
the practical demonstration on following testing
procedures with the aim to train the professionals of
tanneries.

This workshop is foreseen facilitating for the
laboratory and production staff to deliver their assign
tasks effectively and smoothly.
Proceedings
The workshop started at 2:00 PM with the recitation of
Sora-e- Shams, by Syed Akhtar Ali, Assistant
Manager, Mohammad Shafi Tanneries. Total 40
participants attended this workshop and shown their
interest in it. A file having, presentation, handouts
having details of testing procedures and writing
papers were presented to the participants at the
reception desk, at the time of registration.
After recitation of Holy Quran, a brief introduction
of workshop was given by Mr. Ibad Ur Rehman of CTP-KT
In the end Mr. thanked to all the participants for
being cooperative and regular in the series of
workshops.
Mr. Ibad specially thanked to the participants of MIMA
Ltd for being punctual in the workshops.
After introduction, a presentation on “Testing
Procedures for Environmental Pollution Parameters in
Tannery Effluent” was given by Mr. Rashid Ahmed,
Deputy Project Coordinator CTP-KT.
After the presentation, practical demonstration on
following was given to the participants of workshop by
Mr.
Rashid Ahmed and Mr. Ayaz Ahsan, Process Expert of CTP-KT

After the practical demonstration of above mentioned
tests, participants were divided into five groups.
These group members were asked to exercise the test
procedures in their groups. Tests and name of groups
are presented in Table 1.below

The participants of workshop performed
well in group exercises. The environment of this
workshop was very
friendly and participants were
facilitating their collogues. Team members of CTP-KT
were also facilitating the
groups during group exercise. Beside
the assigned tests, all the groups performed DO and
Sulphide tests
many times. The test results of groups
were same as demonstrated.
After the practical exercise feed back
was obtained from the participants, regarding this
workshop on feed
back form. Out of total 40, feedback
was received from 30 participants.
After receiving the feedback
certificates were presented to the participants of
workshop by Mr. Mehfooz Ali
Khan, Acting Director NILT.
The
workshop was ended with the vote of thank and
refreshment was served to all the participants.
